Back in 2009, when I was still a college student, I first heard about Bitcoin from a few classmates who were deeply interested in it. At the time, crypto felt like something strange and unrealistic to me. Conversations about “internet money,” “mining coins,” and “a financial system without banks” sounded more like science fiction than the future of finance.

I still remember laughing and telling my friends:

“How can something without government control have any real value? It will probably disappear sooner or later.”

In my mind back then, Bitcoin looked more like a pyramid scheme than a real technological breakthrough. I did not invest, I did not research it deeply, and honestly, I never expected it to survive for long.

But time passed.

After graduating and starting my career, life became busy and I almost forgot Bitcoin even existed. Yet every few years, I would unexpectedly see the name BTC appearing again across news headlines — each time with a much higher price than before.

From a few cents… to a few dollars… then hundreds of dollars.

That was the moment I started asking myself:

“If this is really just a scam, why has it survived for so many years?”

That single question pushed me to seriously research crypto for the first time.

As I learned about blockchain, Proof-of-Work, decentralized networks, and the idea that people could truly control their own money without relying entirely on banks or centralized institutions, my perspective began to change.

I realized Bitcoin was not simply a coin created for speculation.

It was an idea.
A revolution in how humans exchange value.

For the first time, I could imagine a financial system operating beyond the limits of traditional institutions. That realization genuinely expanded the way I viewed money and freedom.

But eventually, I also discovered a major problem.

When I tried using Bitcoin in real transactions, I noticed that transaction fees were becoming increasingly expensive. Sometimes, sending even a small amount of money required paying fees high enough to make me hesitate. On top of that, confirmation times were often too slow for everyday payments.

That made me wonder:

“If crypto was created to become money for the world, why is it still so difficult and expensive to use in daily life?”

That was when I understood something important:

Blockchain technology does not only need decentralization and security.

It also needs real-world usability.

A global electronic cash system cannot exist solely for holding and speculation. It must be fast enough to buy a cup of coffee, cheap enough to send a few dollars to friends, and simple enough for ordinary people around the world to use every single day.

That realization eventually led me to pay closer attention to projects pursuing the vision of true electronic cash — where crypto is not just an investment asset, but an actual payment tool for millions of people.

For me, my journey into crypto did not begin with belief.

It began with skepticism.

But Bitcoin’s ability to survive and continue growing over the years forced me to stop, learn, and eventually realize that the financial world was changing in ways I had never imagined before.

Maybe the most fascinating thing about crypto is this:

Many people do not believe in it at first.
Until they finally take the time to truly understand it themselves.
