A forgotten seed phrase, a lost Bitcoin, and a second chance when life had left me with nothing. This is the story of how disbelief turned into survival, and how one small decision from years ago became the reason I could start over. Sometimes, the opportunity we ignore today becomes the miracle that saves us tomorrow.

In 2017/2018, I had just started working at a company. It was a normal stage of my life—routine, stable work, and no idea of everything that would come later. That’s where I met a coworker named David, one of those people who leave a mark without even knowing it.

One day, during a casual conversation, he told me about Bitcoin and the future of cryptocurrencies. He said that one day they would become an important part of the global economy, and that people needed to pay attention because it was a unique opportunity. Honestly, I didn’t believe him at all. I told him it wouldn’t last, that it was impossible for “virtual money” to have real value.

I remember perfectly how much he insisted that he eventually ended up teaching me how to create a crypto wallet—something that seems normal today, but at that time was completely unknown to me. He helped me set everything up, and then he did something I will never forget: he sent me 1 Bitcoin.

He told me something that stayed in my memory forever: “Write down your seed phrase on paper and protect that paper like it’s gold.”

I did it, but without giving it much importance. I wrote those words on a piece of paper and stored it inside a small box where I kept old things from my childhood. I closed the box and continued with my life, never imagining that such a simple action would one day save me.

During the day, I went out looking for work, and at night I came back to sleep there. Since I was homeless, carrying only a small handbag, nobody would hire me. They saw a beggar, not a person. It was more than twelve months of desperation, frustration, and total disappointment with life.

Until one day, something happened that changed everything.

I was at the terminal and asked for permission to use the showers. They allowed me because they already knew me from seeing me there all the time. While I was showering, I overheard two men talking. One was telling the other that Bitcoin was at its highs and would probably correct, and that it was a good time to take advantage.

Hearing that word shook me.

I came out quickly and asked one of them what Bitcoin actually was. He replied: “It’s a cryptocurrency. It’s going to be the money of the future.”

I told him that years earlier, a coworker had talked to me about it, but I had never heard much about it again. I asked if he traded, and he said yes—that opportunities like that didn’t come every day.

I went to see her and asked for the box.

Among all those old papers, folded and almost lost, I found one that said: “Seed Phrase.”

I felt an emotion that is hard to explain.

I immediately put it in my wallet. At that moment, I had nothing more than two papers: my ID and my bus card.

When the two months finally passed, I contacted the man from the terminal. We sat down to drink mate, and he explained everything to me again: how wallets worked, seed phrases, and the basics of the crypto world.

I also understood that in the worst moments, you discover who is truly there, who disappears, and above all, what you yourself are capable of in order to keep moving forward.

Today, I no longer see Bitcoin as just money, but as a symbol of a new opportunity, learning, and resilience. My story is not only about cryptocurrencies, but about falling, enduring, and rebuilding. Because sometimes, when it feels like everything is lost, life still keeps one last door open.
