Why Zcash’s next upgrade (25-second blocks) might be a UX nightmare: The Zcash NU7 upgrade just went live on the public testnet, slashing target block times from 75 seconds down to 25 seconds. While headlines praise "3x faster transactions", the reality for mobile privacy wallets could be a massive user experience regression. Because Zcash relies on heavy zero-knowledge cryptography, mobile apps must locally download and decrypt every block to find your private transactions. Tripling the block frequency means your device now has to scan three times as many blocks in the exact same timeframe. If you think waiting for your wallet to sync is painful now, this 25-second cadence will drastically increase local CPU load, drain your battery, and make casual weekly or monthly use incredibly frustrating. Obs: since Zcash is probabilistic just like Bitcoin, it has to wait for three block confirmations with a targeted wait of about 75 seconds instead of 225 to finalize a transaction. My own experience with a brand new Cake Wallet and Zcash is waiting about ~35 minutes of syncing on a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for Galaxy S25, which is a fairly new and high-end device.
