yeah it's all a bit concerning. the dream is to one day being able to have a stateless currency, but that dream is definitely in jeopardy.
Lots of fear in crypto right now due t AI breaking cryptography. I'm not a cryptographer so can't say if those fears are warranted. But over the years I've seen all kinds of panic related to China banning crypto, exchanges being hacked, chains going down, and while those were definitely detrimental to the space, crypto has marched on. For me I'm in this space because I want more economic freedom in the world. I don't know if we're going to succeed, but I will continue to support those who are fighting for what I believe in.
Legacy software accumulated vulnerabilities; nobody had reason to fix them. You'd ask how to hack a site, you'd get a cold shoulder. Now you can prompt and figure it out. That's a cost reduction in attack vectors. The math behind public-key encryption is solid and isn't going anywhere. Implementation bugs and the human element are a different story. If a keylogger is hidden in your system, every time you type your private key it's logged β without you knowing.
good to hear from someone technical that public-key encryption isn't going anywhere
Thanks! By the way there's a proven quantum algorithm (Shor's) that can derive a private key from an exposed public key. No machine can run it yet, but the hardware estimate keeps dropping. That's a real risk but you can mitigate and people can patch around it. No free lunches after all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shor's_algorithm
