Fun fact: The most famous and expensive NFT in history is "The Merge" by Pak, which reached $91.8 million in December 2021. However, the story behind it is more interesting than it seems. π¨ The most expensive: "The Merge" by Pak What was fascinating wasn't the price, but how it was sold. Instead of auctioning off a single piece, Pak sold "mass units" over a 48-hour period. Nearly 30,000 collectors purchased these units, and upon completion, each buyer received a unique NFT representing their accumulated "mass." In other words, there is technically no single owner of the artwork; it is fragmented among thousands of people. That is why, if we look for the most expensive NFT purchased by a single individual, the record belongs to someone else. π The king of individual buyers: Beeple That title belongs to "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" by Beeple, sold for $69.3 million at Christie's in 2021. The buyer was Vignesh Sundaresan (known as MetaKovan), an Indian investor. Interestingly, five years later, the NFT market has crashed, and the piece's value is estimated at just a few tens of thousands of dollars. Even so, Sundaresan maintains that he has no intention of selling it and continues to believe in the value of digital art.
