It’s not quite the same situation. FLAC is lossless, meaning it retains all the audio information from the source, while MP3 uses lossy compression and permanently discards some information. If you love listening to songs you would have an awesome experience listening to them in .flac format with Iem earphones. You will thank me later;)

The best audio format is flac, but mp3 despite being inferior in quality is widely used. Something worth pondering.
Never heard of flac but I’m guessing the analysis is missing something. How are you measuring quality here? Everyone says Betamax was better quality than VHS but the real story is that while Betamax may have had higher image quality, VHS tapes offered longer running times so full length movies could fit on them and that’s why it won. Will look into flac if I have time, but I’m guessing it’s a similar situation.
